Catherine Ford was born Bloomsbury in London. Since her father's departure the family, it was looked after by her grandmother, mom and godparents. Ford was suffering from anxiety disorder based on the word association when she was a toddler. Ford started to become fascinated by acting when she was a teenager, and she joined the National Youth Theatre. She was accepted to the Sylvia Young Theatre School. But after just one week she decided it wasn't suitable for her. Ford made an application to the Central School of Speech and Drama and eventually secured the position she wanted on her third try. Shaun Dingwall played Pete Tyler in Doctor Who. Ford earned her bachelor's degree in 1993. But, before then, Ford made a television debut, appearing as a character in Surgical Spirit in an episode that aired in the year 1991. Ford took the professional title of Catherine Tate. Through the Nineties, Tate could be watched on television in programs such as The Bill, Men Behaving Badly and London's Burning. Her regular work in theatre led her to join the Royal Shakespeare Company, for the 2000-2001 season. Tate began to gain attention for her stand up comedy in the year 1996.
